A dinner that i had been looking forward to all weeks…

Ember, Hotel 1929.

We don’t usually indulge in expensive dinners. Not that we dislike it or anything like that. But because our reasoning gotta be same as half of the people out there, that is.. we simply cannot afford such luxury. However, special occasions are totally a different story :P

At Ember, we very much prefer its special menu eg ; X’mas menu. Or rather, we like degustation menu very much.

But hmm… while the starters, appetizers and desserts are always good, i beg to difer on the mains. Somehow, the mains always disappoint, especially the beef. Actually, we only order the beef.. everytime :P

Apart from the food, another thing that i looked forward to was dressing up which i hardly do these days. I’m a.l.w.a.y.s in shorts and flip flops. In another word, lazy! So, without the boys in tow.. i have no excuse not to doll myself a teeny weeny bit :P

Me on X’mas eve..

Pardon my slanted pic. In fact, i was leaning backwards but because of the crooked pic, i appeared to be standing straight aye and with huge tummy some more!? Keke.

Our 7-course meal, taken with a 3 years old handphone with camera. Do pardon the picture quality yeah?

Our absolutely delicious complimentary bread

My guess of what contained in it : Rosemary, sun dried tomatoes bits, sprinkles of parmesan cheese on top and i cannot remember anymore >.<

What we liked about it : piping hot from the oven and the very lovely crust. 2 thumbs up!

1- Pan roasted langoustine with lobster espuma

After completing my 1st course, i almost got a shock when i looked up.. no thanks to the husband of course! Staring right at me.. so garang!

2-  Homemade foie gras parfait with french toast, granny smith apple sauce

3- Angel hair pasta with konbu, sauteed assorted seasonal mushroom and white truffle oil

4- Slow roasted wagyu beef with merlot, fleur de sel and garlic marmalade

Hb and i ordered the same main though there was another option to choose from, which was pan seared seabeam.

Like i mentioned above, it wasn’t done up to our expectation and honestly, it didn’t seem like it was on par with the rest of the courses’ standard. Quite a disappointment i must say. Not sure about the seafood mains though since we’ve not tried them before.

But the tube-idea was definitely refreshing! Reminds me of those molecular gastronomy somehow :P

I think the husband had fun pouring the sauce out. Hee.

I was expecting to have the hands dirtied, judging from the greasy-looking tube but surprisingly, it was squeaky clean!

5-  Warm chocolate mousse with coffee granite. vanilla ice cream and raspberry foam

6- Seasonal fruit brunoise with apricot pulp, passion fruit and guava sorbet, herb infusion

7 – Coffee / tea

All in all, it was a good meal. I would love to describe each course in detailed but then, Wong Ah Yoke i am not so i figure it is best for me to –> :X

Heh.

So, will i go back again for our X’mas eve dinner in the future?

I don’t think so.

While the service staffs were excellent, the ambience/environment wasn’t great. We were seated rather near the kitchen. All 2-seaters were there at that time unfortunately. Imagine my au naturel perfume after the dinner! *yuck*

On top of that, it was noisy. No, make that very noisy. It wasn’t like that the last time. It definitely wasn’t romantic despite the low lighting, candle-lit tables.

The ambience/environment was a huge let-down.

Anyway…

I hope all of u had a great Christmas this year. I know i did ;)
