As a kid, i love 8月15.
It meant lighting my whole house up with candles at night on daily basis, yes, even on weekdays, right after my sisters and i finished our dinner.
It also meant playing masak masak for real (i only play real masak masak, never the fake stuff when i was a child. pretend play was boring :P) with whatever we could find in the garden using our homemade milo tin, nailed with countless holes and candles in it. Oil was candle. Cooking water was saliva. Hahaha.. how gross can we get??! Sometimes when we’re not too lazy, we’ll fill up cups with tap water though :)
Best was when our next door neighbour, 2 boys around our age — the elder brother quite cute one! *wink*, came out to play along too. Usually, they will for they can’t couldn’t resist. Errr…ahem… resist playing, not us, girls. Heeeeeeee :P
But these days, living in an apartment, 8月15 doesn’t mean much anymore. Children can only play downstairs. No gates, no homes, no walls to light up. No grass, no weeds, no flowers that we can call our own to cook. Parents are not as lenient and easy going either. 8月15 or not, weekdays night are spent at home.. shower, dinner, tv for half hour, homework, sleep. So pitiful :(
Last year, we brought the children to light up at Botanic Garden. It was fun! This year, i was thinking of doing the same thing too and invite another family friend along but the proposal got rejected unfortunately -_-
So when boy2′s school sent out an invitation to celebrate 8月15 in school, i practically jumped up and down with joy!
I like togetherness.
I like mixing around.
I like socializing but not really good at it though. The downside of being a very busy homemaker who is always rushing and out of time, for too many years! –but deep down, i know the socializing skill is a gift. something that comes naturally, which i don’t have at all. but. practice makes perfect, yes?)
Most importantly, i like spending time with my loved ones, friends or family. Not just us all the time. That’s why i envy other ethnics very much. So much kampong spirit!
Celebrating 8月15 in boy2′s school was an excellent choice.
We know all the teachers personally and the teachers love us too. A lot of times, when the boys and i go to the school together for events, i feel like a mini celebrity. Lol! Always kena fussed around and about! :P
We did the walkabout with lanterns, playing with sparkles, lighted up countless candles, eat, drink and be merry.
It was fun.
The boys had fun.
I had fun.
