Since early this year, i’ve been wanting to check out the latest addition to Railway Mall, Cafe Epicurious and finally, i did.
Basically, they offer 2 kind of set lunches. The above is one of them. ONLY $10+!!
The other, the pricier set.. costs $18++ and the difference?
Better ingredients used and more variety from the mains and desserts. Oh, it also includes a choice of 1 soup or 1/2 portion salad.
Bestie took the $10 set, and i, the latter. What drove me to picking up the pricier set was the desserts. You’ll understand why in a bit ;)
The cafe was almost full surprisingly. I mean, it was a weekday afternoon at a quiet suburb. How is that possible??
We were seated at its sister’s restaurant (Sweet Salt Sour (Thai) or something like that.. :P) next door due to the limited seatings availability. Better lighting, so me ain’t complaining!
My 1/2 portion Caprese Salad.
With the freshest ingredients used, you can not fault a salad.. Mine was exactly that. Delicious!
Bestie went crazy over the fresh mozarella but alas, no matter how crazy she got, we only had 1 slice each. Hahahahaaaa… too bad!
My main : Fusili with Pesto …
and pumpkin (why was it there??), pine nuts (not toasted well enough for my liking.. and a little stinky from the oil — a sign that it has been kept too long?? — ), sundried tomatoes, rocket leaves and shaved parmesan. (would be lovely if they were a weeeee bit more generous but hey, it’s only $18 per set so i better X up! Heh)
Verdict : keeping it simple would be best. with too much stuff added in, it kinda defeats the whole pesto purpose. honestly, i can’t quite taste the pesto sauce or the extra virgin olive oil. Too few basil leaves used? Too little sauce? Hmmm…
By the way, i’m a huge fan of pasta with pesto… finding a good one is like a dime in a dozen!
Bestie’s main : Beef fajita sandwich ….
served with papadam.
Loved the grilled vegetables in it!
Zucchini, red and green peppers… Yums!
Bestie enjoyed it very much! However, it’s something i’d not order if i were to dine there again and again.. not because i don’t eat meat that much these days, but more like.. well, it’s OKaaay sort.. neither YAY nor NAY.
Ahem.
Now, onto the desserts.
For $10′s set, all bestie got was 2 raspberry friands, which *aheeeem again* didn’t taste like friand! It was almost like a cookie. Crispy and crunchy! F.a.i.l! -_-
Of course, there are other alternatives such as chocolate chip cookie or a cupcake or madelines or.. well, let’s just say.. nothing that interests me. Full stop.
On the other hand, the $18 set came with better choices.
Aaaahhh… the wonders of an extra $8. Oh, you can actually go with the $10 set but top up another $4 for the better desserts but aiyah *waves the hand like aunty*, just pay another $4 ok?? Better mains + salad! It’s worth it laaah!
My no-name-dessert.
Now you know why i picked the $18 yeah? :P
You say lah… $18 set better or $10 set?^.^
ps : this cake was not on display. if you want, you need to request it. i think they recommended it to me because ermm.. i seem to know a bit or 2 about desserts, from my questions! Not to mention, i was with my camera so…
